June 6, 1983

The June 6, 1983 Time magazine’s cover story called stress “The Epidemic of the Eighties” and referred to it at the time as our leading health problem.

Today, approximately 75% of people feel that they have “great stress” one day a week with 1 out of 3 indicating they feel this way more than twice a week.

In other words, today Americans believe that they are under as much or even more stress than in the past.

It is estimated that 75% to 90% of all our visits to our primary care doctors are for our stress related problems.

The old model of fixing your stress by just going to a doctor and getting a pill and hoping that the stress will go away is a broken model.

The onslaught of today’s stress tsunamis includes both our personal and professional stress.

There is one thing we have in common. At times we all have intense and overwhelming stress.
